The CNRVMC Dining Service's team deserves a huge applause! During my visit to CNRVMC yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised to have my lunch served to me on a compostable/biodegradable plate in lieu of the traditional polystyrene/plastic container.

The compassion and professionalism that the whole staff showed me on that day is greatly appreciated and this needs to be recognized. As a new member of the Carilion Clinic family, I was required to visit the Security Office in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital to pick up my security card. I visited CRMH this morning shortly after 10. I'm familiar with the hospital and while I had a general idea of where I needed to visit on the fifth floor, I wasn't completely sure about how to get there. Therefore, I stopped at the visitors desk to ask for directions. The two women at the desk at that time gave me clear directions on how to reach the Security Office in Five North.
Carilion Clinic's highest priority is patient safety. On the note of safety, I want to thank our security officers for keeping the employees safe every day. A special thank you to Brian Stallions yesterday for stopping a non-employee (who appeared to be following me into work after my lunch break) from entering further into the building. I appreciate everything they do for us.
This week the NICU at Carilion Children's is celebrating a significant milestone in their continued COMMITMENT to deliver quality patient care. Their Journey to ZERO, which has encompassed a variety of evidence-based practice changes, has resulted in achieving ZERO CLABSIs for the past 2 years. The NICU team is dedicated to caring for the tiniest patients in the hospital; some infants weigh less than a pound at birth and may require a central venous line for weeks or even months. I want to acknowledge Katrina Black, from the Fort Defiance office. Katrina is in the CCHM department and she and I worked together for several years, until I missed face to face interaction with people and I transferred to the front office staff, at Staunton Family Practice. I chose to keep Staunton's A1C scorecard, which is normally done in the CCHM department. Since I am kinda out of the loop with the CCHM department now, Katrina keeps meet updated with all of the changes pertaining to the Scorecard. Anytime I have a question, I know she is my "go to person" here
The CSJH ICU Nursing Team was recognized today for achieving over 12 months without a patient fall. After a series of patient falls in February and March of 2018 the team increased their efforts to ensure safe patient care. Congratulations on their continued success!
