Kudos for Keeping Us Ahead of the Game
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) has recognized Carilion as the only hospital system in the state to have taken steps early to slow the spread of hepatitis A during an outbreak.
Chief of Infectious Disease Thomas Kerkering, M.D., leads the way, making sure plans are in place to keep employees and the community safe.
Before the VDH even announced that Virginia is now considered an outbreak state for hepatitis A, education and vaccination sessions were held at CTCH and CGCH as well as CSJH (the areas closest to the location of the known outbreak). Rollout for CRMH, CFMH and CNRV are not far behind.
In the photo on the left, he is making sure the community is well informed today via our local media outlets.
Thank you, Dr. Kerkering, for keeping the health and safety of our employees at top of mind!
