The Roanoke Valley League of Older Americans sponsored a Soup for Seniors canned food drive. CVI departments had a competition to collect cans within one week to meet the LOA's deadline. In one week 287 cans were donated!! The competition was tight but our winner was Vascular Surgery OR with 120 cans!! Second place was 7 West and Third Place was 7 SPCU. Thank you to all the areas who supported this worthwhile cause. 

I have to let you know about a wonderful experience I had at your hospital last Friday. We had a mutual patient discharging from the Hospital who needed O2 to get home. Because it was a few hours away, close to 5pm and with nasty weather, Rotech decided he needed three of the large E tanks to cover all possible contingencies he may encounter. I was in a hurry and did not effectively plan getting his tanks to his room on the 8th floor.

Last week became a little hectic at the RMH Pharmacy, for working staff and patients in need of medications. While balancing a system outage, leading to delayed processing, Stephanie Hughes delivered the news of delays to persistent patients, showing Compassion, Kindness and Grace that neutralized frustrations. It is a rare quality to possess in hectic times, Stephanie has it and shares it with a glow.

I have had half a dozen work interactions with Jordan Chang in the Blacksburg PT.  I have found him to be honest in our dealing and a great communicator.  On a recent visit to his location, I was in the adjacent parking garage and noticed a parked vehicle with the headlights on.  Someone had already left a note on the windshield offering help to jump start the vehicle if needed, it was JORDAN!!!  This proves to me that whether it is on the clock or off the clock Jordan is willing to help those around him when they need it. 

Taylor Butler, RN- CTL was working two clinics' when a sick patient arrived on-site. Taylor immediately recognized the patient in distress and sprang into action getting vitals. She stayed with the patient to ensure he was taken care of and had what he needed even after her shift was completed. Your dedication and thoughtfulness ensured this patient was able to return home safely. Thank you for your compassion and going above and beyond. 

A patient on Labor and Delivery realized she had lost her phone after transferring to a new room.  Her pictures from the birth were on her phone.  The room she had been in was searched, and the phone could not be located.

Guest Services Parking Lead Ricky McKinney was at the window of the CRMH pharmacy Friday morning to pick up his medicine. As he waited for his prescription, Ricky heard a young man ask a cashier, "How long can ya'll hold it?"

The DAISY Award recognizes nurses that do extraordinary work with their patients and families. Nurses make a meaningful difference in the lives of so many people, and in this case, the impact that the care of this nurse had on this patient's family was extraordinary.

The BEE Award recognizes the extraordinary work of our unlicensed nursing support staff here at CRMH.  This award acknowledges the contributions of the ancillary staff in the delivery of the care plan to provide the best possible care to patients and to their familes.  Micah Austin exemplies all of these attributes in the care of his patients.  As of this date, Micah has earned 10 BEE Award nominations from patients.  Way to go, Austin, that is amazing!

7MT PCU nurses Kate Willis and Martha Gibbs came to the rescue after they received a phone call from a recently discharged patient. The patient arrived home after being discharged to discover one of their medications was not filled at the pharmacy. The patient had a very important dose to take that night and with collaboration, the team was trying to decide if the patient needed to be readmitted back to the ED for the dose or if the pharmacy could fill it in time. The pharmacy ultimately filled the medication, and after work, Kate and Martha drove and delivered it to the patient's house.
