Dr. John Burton has led the way in creating Virginia's first ED Bridge to Treatment model program that initiates treatment when appropriate for individuals with an opioid use disorder.  The timely ED intervention triggers responses from peers, case managers, the outpatient office-based opioid treatment program's care coordinators, social workers and physicians/nurse practitioners to collaboratively expedite rapid access to treatment.  The success of this ED Bridge has led to interest in replicating what Dr. Burton has accomplished at Carilion - through collaborations with Drs.

A huge shout out to Mariana Salamoun for her continued hard work on reviewing over 600 epic research accesses to ensure proper security has been granted.  This ongoing task is very important to how we manage the accesses we grant for research.  As a team, we can rest assured going forward that the necessary work was done properly!

The next time you are at the Medical Education wing patio at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, take a moment to relax and enjoy the new bench! 8 South PCU worked together as a unit to participate in the Trex Soft Plastics Recycling program and recycled 500 pounds of plastic. Upon achieving this goal, they were given a bench made out of the recycled material.

If you walk through the halls at CNRV, you will see Dr. Elizabeth Pines taking in dinner trays to patients, getting warm blankets, pillows....the list goes on and on. There is never a request from a patient that is asked of her that she deflects to someone else to take care of. She jumps in with the rest of the staff and does anything that it take to ensure that our patients are completely taken care of. CNRV is truly lucky to have her!!!!

I want to give a huge shout out to our team lead at Carilion Pediatric Dental, Melisa Smith- Witt.  We just got moved into the new Carilion Children's building.  Just imagine moving your household and then square it.  Melisa helped keep everyone on track, calm, and organized.  We are settling in now and unpacking along with the Hospital Dentistry team.  She has done a great  job during this whole thing and organized it like the D-Day landing at Normandy.  So has the team lead for Hospital Dentistry, Nicole Sullivan.  We salute you team leader!

On 08/14 I was sent to mother/baby for 4 hours shift. When I got my assignment, turned out one of my little patients has lots of tests scheduled right at the beginning of the shift: metabolic screening, PKU, O2 screening, full 24 hour work up. As a Resource nurse I get to do it very rarely and I did not feel comfortable. Thankfully, Rita Toth took me under her wing and helped me with the testing. Thank you, Rita!!!

After having to be out with an injury I came back to see how well our team works above and beyond our normal jobs to help all tasks to get done, and adjusting when one of us is absent . Amy Creasey and Randy Green  have both put forth exceptional effort to keep things running as smooth as possible.
