New Epic Data Tools Provide More Insights Into Care

With the August upgrade, we have joined Epic's Cosmos network, contributing to one of the largest integrated collections of clinical data in the world. We also added new data models to Epic's SlicerDicer.

These tools provide new opportunities for clinical insights, research, benchmarking, and data-informed decision-making.

Could You Be at Risk for Peripheral Artery Disease? Get Screened.

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) happens when arteries in the legs become narrowed or blocked, reducing blood flow to the legs and feet. PAD can be difficult to recognize because many people have few or no symptoms. A free screening can help identify possible circulation concerns and determine whether you should follow up with a health care provider.

RQI Training Launch Issue Affecting Some Staff

UPDATE: Aug. 4: The RQI training launch issue has been resolved. If you experience issues, open a ticket in Employee Center.


Carilion staff assigned Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) training may receive an error message when trying to launch training through Workday. 

Education and Organizational Development and RQI teams are aware of the issue and are working with Technology Services Group (TSG) to identify a solution. At this time, there is no estimated timeline for when the issue will be resolved.

New Tazewell Family and Community Medicine Location Opens

A ribbon cutting event for our new Family and Community Medicine – Tazewell practice (282 Market Street in Tazewell) was held on Tuesday, August 4. The practice is officially open to patients, and the new location offers 16 exam rooms, 4 procedure rooms, as well as onsite lab capabilities.

Treating Opioid Addiction in Appalachia

The impact of opioid addiction across the urban and rural Appalachian region we serve received widespread attention in the books "Demon Copperhead" and "Dopesick," which was made into a drama miniseries in 2021.  

It also was the motivation behind our unique Addiction Medicine Fellowship program, which trains post-residency physicians in comprehensive addiction care.

If you use PerfectServe, update your log-in information to use use your Carilion email address and the same password you use for Epic. This is a more secure log-in process and helps to keep our patients' information safe.
