New Epic Data Tools Provide More Insights Into Care
With the August upgrade, we have joined Epic's Cosmos network, contributing to one of the largest integrated collections of clinical data in the world. We also added new data models to Epic's SlicerDicer.
These tools provide new opportunities for clinical insights, research, benchmarking, and data-informed decision-making.
About Cosmos
Epic Cosmos is a secure, collaborative data platform created with health systems that use Epic. It brings together de-identified, longitudinal electronic health record data so approved users can explore real-world patterns, support research, and inform clinical and operational questions.
Cosmos currently represents 310 million patients and 21.6 billion encounters across more than 49,000 clinics and 2,100 hospitals. It will allow our clinicians and teams to learn from data at a scale beyond what is possible within any single health system.
What's Available in Cosmos
With the August Epic upgrade, the following capabilities are enabled by default:
- Cosmos Portal access for approved users
- SmartText Box Auto Complete
- Cosmos Growth Charts
- Cosmos Median Length of Stay
Over the coming weeks, we are working to enable two additional capabilities:
- Best Care Choices
- Look-Alikes
We will continue to expand Cosmos capabilities over time.
