Cosmos Is Live: Carilion Begins Data Contribution
This morning at 10:00 a.m., Carilion officially began contributing data to Cosmos, marking an important milestone in our continued adoption and advancement of Epic.
With our participation, Carilion joins a growing community of organizations contributing to one of the largest integrated collections of clinical data in the world. Cosmos currently represents 310 million patients and 21.6 billion encounters across more than 49,000 clinics and 2,100 hospitals. Our participation gives approved Carilion users access to this broader, de-identified dataset, creating new opportunities for clinical insights, research, benchmarking, and data-informed decision-making.
Available Today
With today’s go-live, the following capabilities are enabled by default:
- Cosmos Portal access for approved users
- SmartText Box Auto Complete
- Cosmos Growth Charts
- Cosmos Median Length of Stay
Over the next two weeks, we are working to enable two additional capabilities:
- Best Care Choices
- Look-Alikes
An Outstanding Team Accomplishment
We want to recognize the outstanding contributions of the teams who made this ambitious effort possible in just eight short weeks—all while maintaining our existing Epic upgrade and support timelines.
Reaching this milestone required significant coordination, focus, and partnership across teams. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making today's launch possible.
Looking Ahead
Cosmos represents a notable step forward in our continued adoption of the Epic electronic medical record and the value we can derive from our investment in the platform. As our participation matures, Cosmos will continue to unlock additional capabilities that help our clinicians and teams learn from data at a scale beyond what is possible within any single health system.
