How It All Began

Carilion is not an overnight success story. Our roots run deep in the region, touching generations of families in the Roanoke and New River Valleys and beyond.

If the system is best represented as a tree, then Roanoke Hospital Association (RHA) is the trunk of that tree.

RHA was founded in the late 1800s to help raise funds for building Roanoke’s first hospital. As a result of RHA’s efforts, Roanoke Hospital—which is today CRMH—was chartered in 1899 and opened in 1900.

Exciting updates are coming to Mountain View Café as renovations continue to enhance the dining experience. Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming changes and temporary adjustments.

To protect patient privacy and ensure we are complying with federal and state laws, we are taking steps to protect MyChart accounts for some patients ages 12-22.

What is Changing and When

Starting on Feb. 15, some MyChart accounts for patients ages 12-22 will be deactivated:

This month we will begin offering HP Advance Pull Printing to help keep information secure. With this option, you can send a document to any compatible Carilion HP multi-functional printer in your department and print it by tapping your Carilion proximity badge. You will still have the option to send print jobs to your specific networked printer for immediate printing.

Carilion Children's Pediatric Neurosurgery now sees patients in Lynchburg, providing expanded access to care and reducing the need for patients to travel far to see a specialist.

Chris Turnbull, who most recently assisted with our leadership transition, has been named Chief of Staff.

Federal Flexibilities are temporary policies and relaxed rules related to telehealth services that aim to enhance access to care and ensure continuity during emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic.

These flexibilities are set to expire on December 31, 2024. We remain optimistic that Congress will renew them during this session.

We have partnered with Safe Haven Baby Boxes (SHBB) to install Virginia’s first box at CRMH. Prior to 2022, Virginia law required parents to hand the newborn directly to a professional at a 24-hour Emergency Medical Services facility or Emergency Department within 14 days of birth. The new law provides a private and safe environment for relinquishing a baby up to 30 days after birth.
