Chelsie Bard, 9spcu unit director at CRMH came up with a creative idea to offer a litte fun and therapy for her team and other health care providers around her unit! Attached to a wall near the nurse station is a coloring paper mural of sea turtles and markers near by for people to come by and color a part of the wall! It has provided fun and a smile to everyone! Thank you Chelsie!!

Kudos to 9 South PCU and 7th floor Cardiology at RMH

Submitted by tldeel on

Here in Billing Customer Service, we received a call from a patient yesterday who wanted to share her experience at RMH.   She spent almost 3 weeks on 9 South PCU under your care and said the whole staff was fabulous!  She also mentioned that she had spent a week on the 7th floor in Cardiology at RMH and they were all fabulous as well and all of you deserved a pat on the back!

Great job, team!  In a world where so many people are quick to find fault, it's nice to receive positive reinforcement from those we interact with daily!

Spreading Christmas Joy

On December 25th, the CTCH Imaging Department prepared Christmas bags for all of our inpatients.  They were stuffed full of fleece blankets, tissues, hand sanitizer, lotion, toothpaste, mints, socks and a whole lotta love.  We wanted to make sure that our patients received a gift of love on Christmas Day.  What an amazing display of Carilion values.

CFMH's Sherry Banks, CA, Helps Out a Family That Ran out of Gas While Waiting to be seen in the ED

Submitted by dzweems on

A family member came in with a small infant inquiring about patient’s wait time due to car running out of gas in the parking lot.  Sherry noticed the infant did not have on warm clothes and only small blanket with feet out.  She spoke to the family member and found out their vehicle had run out of gas while they had been waiting in the parking lot and they had no way to go get any. Sherry searched high and low and checked with all staff in the hospital for a gas jug to go get them gas and was not able to find one.

First Class Help from TSC

Thanks to Phil Hobrla for helping me get past my accumulated irritation with yearly access renewal, and actually fix the problem of the incorrect notification form sent to the incorrect email. Thanks to his patience and knowledge, my renewal next year should be easier than the last 4 years. TSC folks always been very professional and helpful, but he was especially kind in sorting through my weary frustration. Excellent service.

Pharmacist helps distressed patient sleep.

Submitted by cbatwater on

Anyone that has ever worked midnights knows that anything can and usually does happen.  Mindy Wallace, PharmD recently displayed great compassion as she took a phone call from a previous patient that couldn't sleep and was in distress.  Mindy talked with the patient, reviewed all of her medications to identify if any of them might be contributing to insomnia.  Mindy absolutely lived out our mission to improve the health of the communities we serve and reinforced that the care we provide doesn't stop at discharge.  Way to go!
