Would like to give a Big Shout Out to John who works @ the site for dropping off patients for Surgery. I had a Surgery appointment @ 2:00pm, my 86 yr old mama came with me. We were not made aware beforehand that there was no Valet Parking. Neither my mama or myself are able to walk any distances without help. Mama got really upset & cried. John got a wheelchair for her & asked me to go park. I do use a cane. I was praying I would be able to get to the building after parking.

In an article from Virginia Business, titled "The longest year", Carilion Giles was recognized as receiving top patient satisfaction/experience scores over the past year.  According to Foster, "the annual satisfaction survey asks patients two questions: How do they rate the hospital? And would they recommend the hospital to friends and family?

The highest ratings in answer to the first question are 9 or 10 on a 10-point scale. The highest recommendation in response to the second question is: “Yes, definitely.”

Just wanted to give a shout out to Officer Johnston for his help last night.  When I came out of Carilion Children's Tanglewood late after hours last night someone had parked so close to my vehicle that I could not get into the car.  So he was right on it, jumping in there and helping me.  He was able to climb in my vehicle and get it backed out for me.  Thank you so much for the help! It was much appreciated. It's nice to know someone is here to help us out.

Guest Services secretary Karen Dillon has been artistically creative for as long as she can remember. You may recognize Karen because earlier this year, the Cancer Center featured her on the Wow Wall for writing messages and drawing little pictures on screening stickers that inspired patients. But she is also a painter.

A huge congratulations to Brittany Clemmons for winning the Daisy Award!

"The level of commitment and compassion Brittany has shown this patient is unmatched. She was able to provide him with the type of love that every baby deserves and typically gets from their birth families. Brittany was this baby's NICU mom, and she not only took great care of him while he was living but also while he was passing."

Lindsay Young, BSN, RN, CCRN collaborated with a local elementary school guidance counselor to help a single mom in need. The 7S ICU team bought Christmas gifts for the three children; grades kindergarten, fourth grade, and ninth grade, based off their wish list. The unit raised over 400 dollars in donations to spend on this family in need. This was Lindsay's second year teaming with a local elementary school to find a family in need during the holiday season.

Allison Dent put her own coat around the shoulders of a patient to keep her warm when transporting her to the curb for pick up by a family member. Above and beyond.
