A team member had an opportunity to spend Thanksgiving with family in a nearby state recently at the last minute. Iris Tabor, Patient Access, volunteered to work the employees night shift (Iris works day) so she could visit and spend time with family. This is one of the many acts of kindness that Iris shows her fellow team members and she also helps many patients in need as well. Thank you for all your acts of kindness Iris!!

Our pediatric department has been closed for months, and without our RN staff around, I had no hope for decorations and holiday spirit. Then, as I sat working on our empty unit, our tree was delivered. All of our ornaments are in storage, and I joked with the Birthplace nurses about just setting the tree up and leaving it undecorated. That night Anna and Lynn set the tree up, but found 2/3 of the lights not working. The next day Wendy tried to fix the lights, and when she asked Megan Barefield about bringing some from home, Megan put in a work order.

I had to get my vaccine today. I just wanted to say Mary anne in occupational services was such a sweetheart and so understanding of my worries. She made me feel so comfortable and had such a great spirit!!!!

"She cares for each patient like they are her own family and does everything she can for that patient before leaving their room. Some of our patients have been here for a long time and she takes the time out of her day to trim their hair and beard or make sure they have clothes other than a hospital gown to wear. This is not just once in a while but every day Mila works. She deserves the recognition for the dedication she puts into her work! Thank you Mila!"

I know our tribe is small but I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Hanukkah. 

Surgical Care Unit staff volunteered to help restore the T.G. Howard Center in Pulaski County. Staff participated with the demolition which included using sledgehammers to knock down walls, and a chimney! They also removed a roof and hauled off debris.

Last week, CRBH was holding a pediatric behavioral health patient in the ED for multiple days. During this time Richard Winand, Clinical Associate, ensured the patient had recreational diversions available. In partnership with law enforcement, physicians, and nursing; Richard took the child outside to play catch and allowed them time to just be a kid. Thank you Richard for your motivation and compassion!

Our awesome staff at North Roanoke dressed in Red, White & Blue yesterday to help recognize all Veteran's.  In honor of one of our providers who served Dr. Linsey Clarke our group is donating in his honor to the K9's for Warriors foundation.

Misty Stultz is one of our HAA's and is an amazing example of what customer service should be. Recently, we had a patient who was traveling from Martinsville to our Christiansburg office and the patient became confused on where she needed to go and found herself lost. Misty not only provided the address to her, but she also stayed on the phone with her, giving her turn-by-turn directions until she found our office. This has happened on multiple occasions. Misty is always our go-to-girl because she goes above and beyond for all our patients.

Cheryl Boskoski- Nurse at Colonial Avenue helped a patient in need.  A patient came for her visit. She came by taxi and after visit was supposed to be picked up by taxi.  She waiting for over 2 hours staff continued to check on her.  Made sure she was okay and needed anything. Thank you front staff.  In the end it was 5pm closing and no taxi. Cheryl was generous enough to help a 82yrs old patient get home safely.  Service heart and kindness from our staff! Thank you Cheryl and Front staff for showing compassion to our patient.
