A patient was admitted to CRBH this past Thursday for Pneumonia after being found at a gas station febrile and disoriented. He and his daughter had traveled from PA to NC and were headed back home when he suddenly became ill and pulled over. He was admitted to the ICU and no one from his family was able to travel to Lexington to pick up his disabled daughter. The patient's daughter was allowed to stay in the ICU with him while he recovered and the CRBH staff not only cared for him but also looked after his disabled daughter during his 4-day hospital stay.

This group was each recognized by a patient for providing an incredible experience during his outpatient surgical visit. The patient sent individual flower arrangements to each of these team members in appreciation for the care received. Thank you to Amy Smith, Becky Lucas, Tara Sanders and Richard Vidaud for working with your team to make Patient Experience a top priority for surgical patients at Carilion Giles Community Hospital!
I received a patient mid-day yesterday and went in to introduce myself. After talking to him he asked, "Who is that doctor that came in this morning? I can't pronounce his name, but he really explained things in a way I could understand and seemed to really care and love his job?" I knew exactly who it was by the man's description and gave his name and how to pronounce it by breaking it down on the white board in the room. I ended with the usual "And you can call him Dr. S if you want.
We had an oncology patient come in for a PET exam mid-morning. The patient had a little girl who looked to be about 7 or so with her which normally the child should be in school. The patient was taken to the back and the child was going to need to wait in our waiting room. The child began to cry and Anna took this child under her wing. She found out the the child wasn't fed breakfast and went and asked her mom if she could get her something to eat. She then fed her and got her something to drink and let her pick out a toy out of the treasure chest, which she picked "Old Maid cards".
Per the DAISY nomination,
A huge THANK YOU for all you have done for my mom (Sue Roseberry) and family. You were such a blessing and made such a huge impact during mom's time in IR. You are so compassionate, kind, and gentle. Thank you for all you do and for taking such good care of us. We want to recognize you for the excellent care you give. The entire IR team took great care of us. Thanks so much.
Personal reasons elevated our family's appreciation for our Carilion ER - the compassion and attention showered on our family at a time of distress made ALL the difference. Everyone on the team including the nurses who work so hard and yet maintain their kind demeanor, as well as the physician and the physician assistant - all helped us cope with a frightening situation. They were reassuring and so thoughtfully attentive.
