Carilion Clinic Home Health and Hospice (Therapy) Manager, Ryan P. Nielson went above and beyond for a new home health patient 5/29/26.

Ryan took time out of his busy schedule to deliver, to the patient's home, a much-needed foot/leg boot. I can't express how grateful that I am that he did this, and I know he made the patient's day by doing so. 

A heartfelt thank you from me and the rest of the Home Health and Hospice team here at CRMH. 

As a Carilion employee i want to recognize Susan Williamson. I was an ED patient yesterday. unfortunately, when I drove there, I parked my car in the parking lot where the tennis courts used to be. I later found out it is not Carilion property but belongs to the water authority and it was likely to be towed come daylight. I was unable to drive and did not have anyone with me during the ED visit. Susan came in to check on me and was incredibly comforting and went above and beyond expected care by requesting I let her move my car to a Carilion lot.

On Friday, May 22, Dr. Jonathan Carmouche, Chris Deneault, and I visited Carilion Giles Community Hospital. As we were wrapping up our visit and preparing to leave, Dr. Carmouche noticed an office nameplate for a Community Health Worker. Curious to learn more about the role, we stopped by and had the pleasure of meeting Shawna Smith.

Congratulations to Jeremy Howard, RN Case Manager with Carilion Clinic Hospice – Roanoke.  Jeremy is this month’s recipient of the Oakey’s Caregiver Award.  This honor is awarded to hospice clinicians who provide exceptional care, comfort, and compassion to patients and their families.  Congratulations, Jeremy for reflecting the best in hospice care!  

Huge congratulations to Mark Forbes for being recognized as our “Calmest in Crisis” Nursing Superlative winner during Nurses Week!

Mark’s steady leadership, calm demeanor, and unwavering support for both patients and staff make an incredible impact in our Emergency Department every single day. No matter how chaotic things get, he consistently brings confidence, focus, and reassurance to the team around him. His ability to lead through high-pressure situations while keeping the department running smoothly is truly exceptional.

Carilion Franklin Hospice CNA Sabrina recently proved that not all heroes wear capes… some carry dog leashes.

Sabrina recognized a dog posted on Animal Control's Facebook page as the missing companion of one of our hospice patients. The doggo had escaped during a grocery store run and eluded all attempts to retrieve him. Since the dog had belonged to the patient’s late daughter, he is an especially treasured companion and the patient was especially heartbroken over the loss of his little friend.

Congratulations to CNRVMC's latest Bee Award winner, Wanda! Wanda is a PCT on CCU. Wanda was nominated by both co-workers and patients. Here is what they had to say about her:

Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital Celebrates Shana Carter as the BEE Award Winner

Shana is an extremely hard worker. We worked a shift in which we had a large surge of critical patients and seven patients from a motor vehicle accident. She was the only tech that day and seriously went above and beyond to help with every single possible patient and task. We would not have survived the shift without her.
