Shawna Smith - Community Health Worker

On Friday, May 22, Dr. Jonathan Carmouche, Chris Deneault, and I visited Carilion Giles Community Hospital. As we were wrapping up our visit and preparing to leave, Dr. Carmouche noticed an office nameplate for a Community Health Worker. Curious to learn more about the role, we stopped by and had the pleasure of meeting Shawna Smith.

Shawna spoke about her work with genuine enthusiasm and passion, always keeping the needs of our patients and community at the center of her remarks. In just a few moments, she brought our values and mission to life through the way she described her work. Shawna truly embodies commitment, compassion, and courage. We left feeling proud and grateful to have had the opportunity to meet her.
