Kristin Johnson, CPhT is our Giles Medication Assistance Program specialist.  She assists patients with access to expensive lifesaving prescription medications. For patients without insurance and for those with insurance coverage, she is able to research and help folks complete the necessary application forms and gather the required documentation needed, to get free medications from the manufacturers. The application process can be overwhelming and complex.

An Extraordinary Nurse Who Brought Dignity, Compassion, and Humanity to Our Family’s Darkest Hour

It is with profound gratitude and a heavy heart that our family submits this DAISY Award nomination for Sydney Salyers, an extraordinary nurse in the Level 1 Trauma Center ICU.

When my wife and I received the devastating phone call that my mother had suffered a serious fall resulting in a severe brain hemorrhage, our world stopped. We immediately got in the car in Northern Virginia and raced to Roanoke.

I would like to nominate Kiersten for a DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary care, compassion, and encouragement she provided during my hospitalization.

A True Example of Compassion, Teamwork, and Service

Every day, Boss demonstrates what it means to be an exceptional healthcare teammate. He is always eager to help and has an incredible ability to anticipate the needs of our unit before anyone even has to ask.

Often, the moments patients remember most are the acts of kindness that make them feel seen, supported, and safe.

Following a medical emergency, a patient shared heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional care she received from our CRMH Emergency Department, Cath Lab, and 9CST ICU teams. While every caregiver played an important role in her experience, one act of compassion stood out. 

After being airlifted by Medivac from WC and arriving here, I was frightened and unsure whether I was going to make it. With no immediate family nearby, I felt especially alone and vulnerable.

Shortly after being placed in the ICU, an angel in disguise named Natalia appeared at my bedside.
