Congratulations to Kiersten Flaws, RN for Winning the DAISY Award!
I would like to nominate Kiersten for a DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary care, compassion, and encouragement she provided during my hospitalization.
After being admitted from the ER, I arrived on the unit in the late afternoon—what I imagine is one of the busiest times for a nurse, with multiple patients to care for, medications to administer, and countless responsibilities. As I was assisted into my room by the ER nurse, Kiersten came in right away. Even though I knew she had other patients and many responsibilities waiting for her, she greeted me with a warm smile and immediately made sure I had everything I needed to be comfortable.
I was experiencing a great deal of pain, and whenever I called for pain medication, Kiersten responded promptly. I never felt forgotten or that I was an inconvenience. She consistently made me feel that my comfort and well-being mattered.
What stood out most was the time and attention Kiersten gave me. She patiently explained everything I asked about and answered my questions with knowledge and expertise. She never made me feel rushed or dismissed, even when I knew how busy she was.
Once I was able to eat, Kiersten went above and beyond to make sure I had whatever I wanted and needed, regardless of the time or how busy her shift was. Those seemingly small acts of kindness meant so much to me during a difficult and vulnerable time.
But Kiersten's care went far beyond meeting my physical needs. She would sit beside my bed and take the time to help me through my fears, worries, and challenges. She listened, encouraged me, and reminded me that I could get through what I was facing. Her compassion and reassurance gave me strength when I needed it most.
Nursing is not only about caring for a patient's physical needs. It is also about recognizing the emotional and mental challenges that come with being sick and hospitalized. Kiersten understood that. She cared for the whole person, and that made an enormous difference in my recovery.
I am forever grateful to Kiersten for the role she played in helping me heal. Her kindness, patience, expertise, responsiveness, and genuine compassion exemplify what exceptional nursing care should be. She made an incredibly difficult experience more bearable and reminded me that I was not alone.
Kiersten, thank you for being the kind of nurse who not only cares for your patients, but truly cares about them. You made a lasting difference in my recovery, and I will always be grateful.
