We are thrilled to recognize Landon for his outstanding dedication to compassionate patient care and his commitment to excellence!

During my hospital stay, I had the pleasure of meeting Landon, who served as my nursing assistant. From the very beginning, Landon stood out through his high energy, reliability, professionalism, maturity, and—most importantly—compassion.

Our Child Life Volunteers celebrated National Dog Day on August 26th by dressing up for the occasion and bringing smiles to our pediatric patients through a special plush puppy "adoption" program!

Alongside our amazing Child Life staff, volunteers Debbie Ruffin and Colleen Cummings helped create moments of fun, connection, and joy for our patients. 

Caroline Booth works in Crystal Springs Cardiology, and has become the point person for food trucks for the Crystal Spring staff, as well as the rest of us who are willing to walk for a fun treat and a break from being inside.  Caroline crafts the most creative emails to let us know which truck will be available, as well as when a scheduled visit has to change.  On challenging days, reading the smart, fun, and poetic emails telling us what our lunch options could be truly makes my day better.

A DAISY Award Honoree Who Made a Difference When It Mattered Most

There are simply no words to adequately express how grateful our family is for the exceptional care our dad received from the physicians, nurses, and entire care team during his unexpected stay.

Dad came to the hospital for what was expected to be a routine Watchman procedure with Dr. Jason Foerst on Thursday, February 5. Instead, our family found ourselves facing a terrifying and unexpected medical crisis.

A special shout out for Brittany Gurley RN for her outstanding commitment to patient care and advocacy.

Over the course of several days, Brittany worked diligently with the local VA to coordinate services and ensure that one of our OPAT patients received the appropriate care following a recent hospitalization. Her dedication, attention to detail, and unwavering focus on the patient's needs reflect the highest standards of compassionate care.

We appreciate the positive impact she makes every day in the OPAT Clinic at Carilion Infectious Disease.

Malcolm was nominated for the exceptional compassion, kindness, and intentional care he provides to patients. One patient shared how Malcolm consistently went above and beyond throughout their six rounds of chemotherapy, finding meaningful ways to make their experience more comfortable and cared for.

Dr. Ben Mulkey has returned to Carilion as an attending after completing his general cardiology fellowship with us two years ago. His EP fellowship was completed in July in Georgia. His inaugural case was performed today and the EP team has warmly welcomed him, and we look forward to many years of teamwork, partnership, collaboration and growing our Electrophysiology program compassionately for our patients.

Last week, my 4-year-old son had outpatient surgery for a hernia repair. I wanted to thank Dr. Wattsman for her professional and thorough bedside manner; she addressed all questions that we had, including my sons' many questions. I also wanted to thank Dr. Schwamb for bringing much-needed levity; my son was very anxious about the procedure but was able to relax after Dr. Schwamb joked with him and also encouraged us to cue up a movie for my son to watch as the anesthesia was given.
