Congratulations to Dr. Richard Weiss on receiving the Sunshine Award from the Ambulatory Recognition Council!
One grateful patient shared how Dr. Weiss has earned their trust through years of compassionate, respectful care. During a life-threatening hospitalization, Dr. Weiss went above and beyond—stepping in to provide reassurance, explain the situation with compassion, and help the patient make the decision that ultimately saved their life.
Andria Smith, Pediatric Oncology Nurse Navigator, recently demonstrated the incredible impact navigation can have beyond the walls of the clinic. Through the trusting relationship she built with a patient and family, she identified a significant barrier that could have delayed a safe discharge home.
Today was my first time meeting Peter while my two fellow nursing students and I were on the elevator. He was so kind, welcoming, and encouraging. He took the time to recognize and praise us, which truly meant a lot as nursing students.
On top of that, he even brought us drinks from the coffee shop! His kindness and generosity made us feel so welcomed and appreciated.
Thank you, Peter, for making such a positive impression. Healthcare needs more people like you. You rock! 💙
Maegan Coleman, RN BSN was recently honored with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses at CTCH. Maegan is an inpatient nurse at CTCH and was nominated by a peer who wrote this:
Recently had a pt come into see her PCP following an admission to the 5th floor of RMH from July 9 to 13th. Our patient spoke very highly of her nightshift nurse "Sarah" So thank you Sarah for making our patient feel well cared for , its greatly appreciated!
Dr. Kelley Whitmer went above and beyond his radiology job when he helped a Veteran with dementia at Riverside 3. The man was helpless in the restroom and his daughter was concerned for his safety. Dr. Whitmer checked on the patient numerous times and reassured the daughter the entire time with his kindness and willingness to help. What a stellar example of kindness and compassion!!
Robert Timmons does an incredible job keeping Community Hospital clean and organized. Robert cleans, dusts, vacuums and scrubs everything, including the bathrooms! No other EVS employee does a better job. Everyone at Community is happy to see Robert arrive because we know everything will be clean and smelling great!
Congrats to all of our winners from the raffle supporting Roanoke Valley Nightingale Tribute. CVI Retention Committee will donate $720. to them from the raffle proceeds.
A special Thank You to CVI PACU, CVI OPS, and CVI OR for sponsoring the baskets used during the raffle. The baskets were beautifully done and created a lot of interest. The basket winning the most tickets was basket #1 Coffee Basket from CVI PACU. CVI PACU will get a unit celebration for their win!

Lisa Garrett with Carilion Family Medicine painted a beautiful piece titled Compassion and Love: The Service Dog and submitted it to the Carilion Employee Art Show.
When I walked through the show, I noticed the piece was for sale, but it had already been sold. After the art show ended, Caroline Booth with Carilion Cardiology generously gifted the artwork to Meadow and me so we could proudly display it in our office.
