Carilion Rockbridge Celebrates Oliver Smith, RN as the DAISY Award Winner!

I spent the night in the ED at Rockbridge Carilion to treat an abdominal abscess and was blessed and fortunate to have Oliver for my nurse.  He was very friendly but totally professional and immediately did everything possible to make sure I was comfortable and made sure to take care of my wife who spent the night with me. Oliver kept me updated every step of the way with what tests were going to be done and why, blood work and cultures, urine specimen, EKG, and cat scan, and immediately relayed the results. He was a step ahead, making sure all necessary supplies were on hand and going to get anything that was needed before anyone else realized something was missing. He worked excellently with the rest of the team on duty that night and it was evident that everyone respected and appreciated his presence and advice. Oliver’s shift ended while I was still there, but he checked in to let me know that he was leaving and what the plans were for my care. I was transferred to UVA the following morning to have the abscess drained but by far did not encounter any other medical professionals that went above and beyond the call of duty like Oliver did!  He deserves the whole flower garden, not just a daisy!
