MRI helps out CT and thank you Laken for navigating critical staffing to support Carilion

Submitted by jrcrowley on

Thank you Laken!  CT appreciates the effort to navigate the MRI schedule to support CT.  Tonight we were critically staffed due to several unexpected events, call outs, and urgent issues.  Laken was supportive, creative, and a huge asset to gather support to manage the night.

Amazing work!

CRBH Respiratory Therapist goes above and beyond

Submitted by klschulke on

Teresa Hill, RRT at CRBH always goes above and beyond to help with patients on the inpatient floors. She is always willing to help with patients on the inpatient floor even when it is not a respiratory need. Last week my co-worker in the ICU was at lunch and when Teresa went in to give one of his patients a breathing treatment, she had multiple requests for nursing. Teresa relayed the patients requests to me and then went into the room and assisted me with removing the patients foley catheter, giving her a bath, and repositioning her in bed.

Welcome S.O.A.R Nurse Externs

Submitted by bntingler on

Last week we welcomed & onboarded 84 S.O.A.R (seeking opportunities, aspirations, & results) Nurse Externs to Carilion from more than 15 nursing programs. 45 rising seniors participating in our 8 week summer pathway & 39 participating in our flex pathway. These are our largest cohorts to date & I cannot thank the unit leaders & nurse mentors enough for their collaboration & commitment to this program. We are so excited to watch them grow through this journey towards becoming future nurses!

Slicer Dicer is AMAZING!

Submitted by cspettersen on

I want to thank Melissa Cash and the Health Analytics team for sharing the magic of Slicer Dicer with me.  This tool is allowing us to create meaningful charts for our Access to Care dashboard in a fraction of the time it takes to run reports, export them and create a meaningful visual for users.  We are still looking at new data models to explore -- but so far, I have been beyond impressed at the efficiency, ease of use and flexibility of the tool.  I am excited to continue exploring this new (to us) tool in Epic!

Thank you to Melinda Huff, RN for working as a team member and taking time to help a coworker to find an answer regarding Epic. Melinda consistently lives her Carilion Values out loud. She always has a smile and words of encouragement for her coworkers and patients. Melinda's positive attitude and compassion for her patients make working with her a pleasure.

When you see a Youth Volunteer in their light blue polo next week, say hello!

During their orientation, the youth volunteers took part in interactive activities and roleplaying to prepare for the program:

CTL - Katie Booth saves patient some scans by helping ED.

Submitted by jrcrowley on

I received this message from a CTL in the ED.  Great collaboration!

During the night we had an issue getting some images from Clinch Valley, Katie Booth CTL in CT at CRMH took the time to talk with Clinch Valley to instruct them on how to push the images. Katie was very patient and understanding, her help was greatly appreciated. I was hoping that maybe we could recognize her effort as she went above and beyond to help.
