The Stroke Awareness team visited CGCH on Tuesday to help promote Stroke Awareness month.  Pam Flinchum, Ellen Harvey, Ashley Semones, and Chrystal Wilson provided great resources for patients, visitors, and staff to help better understand the impact of strokes and early detection of symptoms.  Pam and Ellen are amazing resources and advocates to provide the same standards of care across the organization.  We are grateful for their willingness to collaborate and share best practices across the system.

Charles Suba exemplifies the Carilion core value of collaboration. Charles was able to use his skills to bring an idea to fruition. He was instrumental in design, collaboration with stakeholders on improvement of the tool, education, and roll out. He happily took on this project though it is outside his normal job duties. His efforts resulted in process streamlining, cost savings, and improved situational awareness of staff allowing them to better care for the patients we serve. The Virtual Care Center is very thankful for his positive effect on our department and the Carilion system.

I want to recognize our Employee Programs Manager, Julie Blanchard, and Artist in Residence, Michele Walter, for bringing the Healing Arts to our employees!

Julie and Michele led painting experiences as part of our Week of the Nurse events & beyond, allowing staff a few moments to unwind and enjoy the creative process. Michele created three watercolor paintings that staff could easily duplicate over cards containing uplifting quotes and poems. The art was lovely but the shared moments of community were the most beautiful!

We have had such a fun week and learned some things about one another along the way!

Behind the scenes -- quietly but diligently -- the HART team worked with the Tableau team to create a new type of dashboard:  tracking the numbers of patients receiving best practice care in the Carilion ED Bridge to Treatment program, currently being replicated across the state.  The data is driving the replication efforts that are striving for excellence in the form of best practices in the implementation of Emergency Room interventions with patients identified as having an opioid use disorder and in need of medical attention that leads to pursuing a path to recovery.  Than

In the last 3 years the work around Sepsis in our Carilion hospitals has become the center of many Quality Projects. Sepsis being the leading cause of mortality at Carilion Clinic can be very complex to diagnose and clinicians are constantly finding ways to improve outcomes so they can deliver the best care to our patients. When talking about improvement activities around sepsis, the first name that anybody will mention is Amy Lucas.
