Multiple Carilion departments have come together again to offer a Medical Assistant - Applicant to another new area, Pediatrics, in addition to having roles within Family & Community Medicine as well as Orthopedics!

Trainees in this program will go to Virginia Western Community College in the morning and in the afternoons have specialized hands-on training at Carilion! The tuition for VWCC is paid by Carilion and trainees are full-time employees eligible for benefits while they are gaining the knowledge, skills, and expertise to become certified as a Medical Assistant!

In partnership with Roanoke Blacksburg Innovation Alliance (RBIA), Carilion clinic received a $1 Million state grant to stand up a Human Factors usability service and ISO compliance support for medical technology companies throughout the commonwealth, the region, and the nation. The funder is the GO Virginia initiative, a investment program setup by Virginia’s senior business leaders to foster private-sector growth and job creation through state incentives for regional collaboration by business, education, and government.

The ED staff at CNRV handled two delicate emergencies with utmost professionalism and care in order to achieve the best outcomes possible on Sunday night. Although a somber evening ensued, ultimately the team worked incredibly well together and communicated effectively during an emotionally trying and physically demanding level 1 trauma (GSW) and neonatal code blue.

Mandy Swann in Infection Control had 150 cold and flu relief packs to share with families in Roanoke. The packs included Vick's vapo rub, nasal saline spray, tissues, and cough drops in addition to inserts to educate parents and caregivers about cold and flu symptoms, typical recovery times, and when to see a Dr. She found Carilion's Community Health and Outreach department and the LIFT Center, and we collaborated to distribute all of the relief packs to families of students at the after-school programs at West End Center, Presbyterian Community Center, and Community Youth Project.

Thank you to everyone who has participated in the Ronald McDonald Tab Top collection program at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. In just 9 months, the collection house in the lobby of the hospital was filled with aluminum can tabs for recycling. The total weight was 84 pounds! These tabs were delivered to the Ronald McDonald House in Roanoke, who will recycle the tabs to raise funds used to operate the house. Vicki D, LPN in the CNRV Mental Health clinic generously offered to receive additional training and take over the operations of the CNRV LAI clinic.  This clinic operates each Friday in the CNRV pharmacy, offering long acting injectables to support patients who receive ongoing maintenance for mental health and addiction treatment.  Vicki has worked with CNRV mental health for several years and is the clinic's nursing team lead.  She is reliable, caring and will go above and beyond to ensure patient needs are met.  Vicki seamlessly stepped in during an unexpected staffing
