On December 14th, a hospice patient’s wish came true. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Carilion Clinic Hospice, Carilion Clinic Patient Transport, and Roanoke County Parks and Recreation, the patient was able to visit Explore Park’s Illuminights with her husband, two sons and 13 grandchildren. The patient told her hospice social worker, Kedra McNeil about her desire to go with her family to Illuminights.
The Recognition Council planned some fun events for December! Along with a Gingerbread House Contest, there were tiny stockings hidden throughout RMH containing some prizes for those who found them! The council also sponsored a Spirit Week, complete with festive socks, head gear, scrubs, ugly sweaters, and team jerseys! Below are a few of the pictures submitted of staff. The CNRV inpatient mental health team participated in the CNRV hospital parade to spread cheer for those receiving services this year. Thank you for providing safe and quality mental health care to patients in crisis.
Any day is a good day to walk out our Carilion Values! That is just what a few of our PEAKS Alumni Leaders did earlier this week! PEAKS is a Sr. Leader and above Leadership Development Program led by out Institute for Leadership Effectiveness. What a wonderful way to support our community and show leadership in action. Feeding SWVA gathers local volunteers the third Thursday of the month to kit boxes of food for Seniors that are then distributed to some of our most regional rural areas.

This is the 1st Christmas Wreath Contest held at Riverside 3. All departments were encouraged to participate. The rules were, had to be an artificial wreath, decorations must be added by person/group (no store bought wreaths), battery operated lights only. We had 7 entries and 3 won by categories. MOST HUMOROUS< MOST CREATIVE and BEST CHRISTMAS SPIRIT. The winners are posted here and ALL entries are included in the pictures listed by departments.
When we recently found out that we were receiving new beds at Franklin Memorial, discussions immediately turned into what we were going to do with the old beds. That very week, one of our Unit Directors, Amanda Robertson, shared with me a "Go Fund Me" post from Red Oak Manor, an assisted living facility here in Franklin County. The "Go Fund Me" post was raising money for new beds for their residents. We couldn't believe it. It seemed like that post came to us to tell us what to do with the beds.
This year the Recognition Council held a Gingerbread House decorating contest at CMC! Below are the winners!

We are excited to share that there is now a Ronald McDonald tab top collection house at the Crystal Springs Medical Office Building! This house is located in the lobby and can be used as a drop off for any individuals or departments who are collecting aluminum can tabs to donate to the Ronald McDonald house. This collection house will be monitored by Sustainability Champions in the building, and when full, will be emptied and the tabs delivered to the Ronald McDonald house, in Roanoke.
