On Monday 4/29/24, I was working alongside Robin Bosch, who is a CA in our Emergency Department at NRV. A patient of mine was set to be discharged home, and Robin was helping to obtain their discharge vital signs. Robin noticed that this patient's oxygen saturation was reading much lower than previous readings (80-82%) and quickly alerted me. After further workup following Robin's catch, the patient was diagnosed with a Pulmonary Embolism and admitted to the hospital.

Emily and Julia both were recently hired at the Lexington hospital in Rockbridge County.  Both young ladies have shown a positive impact throughout the hospital while doing their assigned responsibilities.  Their initiative is unmatched, and they have quickly grasped the job requirements.  They have shown a superb work ethic that numerous other employees have recognized.  It is not just their hard work ethics that has made them stand out in this Carilion family but their exceptional attitude.  They have displayed a positive attitude that brightens up every departmen

Congratulations to the Carilion Clinic Neurology team for acquiring the Level 4 Epilepsy Monitoring Unit accreditation at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital from the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). As one of five epilepsy centers in Virginia and the only facility in the region to reach this high status, the award notes that we provide comprehensive medical and surgical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy.

Paddy the Frog and friends from Infection Prevention & Control Department made their rounds today at CRMH to celebrate World Hand Hygiene Day coming up on May 5th! They also passed out some hand hygiene goodies to spread the love of good hand washing!

Hand hygiene is the cornerstone of infection prevention and clean hands, saves lives!!! Adequate hand hygiene prevents serious infection such as C. Auris and other multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs) and is an important step in keeping our patients safe!

Carilion Clinic Foundation recently hosted an event to support the Dr. Robert L.A. Keeley Healing Arts Program and introduce the new the Artists in Residence. Artists demonstrated the use of different mediums, such as poetry, watercolor painting, and pottery, and explained how art can be used to support mental and physical healing to build healthier communities. As the new manager of the program, I was honored to share its history inspired by the values of Dr. Keeley and inform our supporters of the impactful arts initiatives that our program continues to provide.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Clean Up Day event and Earth Week Bingo! As a collective group, we chose sustainable practices including:  

• Use reusable mugs and utensils instead of single-use disposables  

• Took the stairs to conserve energy  

• Turned off the lights when not needed  

• Turned off monitors at the end of the day
