Bridgett Ratliff and Melissa Tolbert in Environmental Services at Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital always go above and beyond their duties. From countless hours of work, overtime preparing for Joint Commission, covering for staff members being off, and always helping other departments when asked. They both always have a smile on their face and a great attitude. We are greatful for them and their display of unity and teamwork on a daily basis. Way to go ladies. We appreciate you. 

A patient at CNRV was using her home supply of an important and expensive non-formulary medication during her inpatient stay.  That supply ran out and she ordered a refill to be delivered to the hospital for the remainder of her stay, but it was not delivered to the pharmacy or her nursing unit.  Cathy Floyd, CPhT and Chinwe Ogbu Mbadiugha , PharmD called the refilling pharmacy and the shipping company to confirm that it was delivered.  Cathy visited many nursing units and potential delivery spots to find the medication, but without initial success.  Th

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Mar. 19, 2025 – The National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS) recently announced the recipients of its 2025 awards at its Annual Conference in Boston, Massachusetts. This award recognizes an individual for extraordinary service to NACNS. This award was established in 2012 to honor individual's or groups who contribute significantly toward the accomplishment of the NACNS’ mission. This award is given by the NACNS President and is not considered an annual award.

Congratulations to Robin Bosch, CA with the Emergency Department at CNRVMC, for winning the Bee Award! Robin had several nominations. Here are a few things her patients and peers had to say about her:

Robin Stanley, RN in the ED at CTCH, noticed there was a dual check off required on a medication she was preparing to administer.  Robin contacted pharmacy to verify the dose and confirmed it was a higher dose than intended.  She spoke with the physician and the dose was changed.   This was a great catch by Robin!  We are grateful for Robin's curiosity and commitment to patient safety!  

Carilion Women's celebrated National Patient Safety Awareness Week by recognizing the incredible efforts of our dedicated teams. Throughout the year, our teams have worked tirelessly to improve the safety and care of women we serve.  A few of the patient safety initiatives in Women's over the past year include Great Catch reporting, Obstetric hemorrhage prevention and response, and Maternal mental health care and screening. 

Today we had the son of a patient calling to get information from us on his mother's situation and condition. He was calling from a foreign country where it was 03:00AM for him. Unfortunately, whoever came with his mom had only listed themself on the contact information. The son was very worried and had called several times to get info and not being able to get it he became frustrated. 

Facilitated by Dr. Melissa Fussell and the Carilion Simulation team, members from multiple disciplines descended into the new ED space this week to test how we plan to provide excellent care to our patients in this beautiful and expansive new environment. Volunteers included staff from Trauma, EM, ED Nursing, X-Ray, CT, Pharmacy, Respiratory Therapy, Patient Reps, Materials Mgmt., Security, E&OD, Clinical Admins, MEDCOM, Patient Access, Chaplaincy, Process Improvement and Human Factors.

Jacob Watkins, Kathryn King, and Erin Holt really stepped up today. This group of CPTS employees helped with a difficult transport today and had a great attitude doing it. They even stayed after their scheduled shift to do so. Thank you guys for all of your help!
