In conjunction with the Carilion Clinic Foundation, Nursing is proud to offer two new annual scholarships for LPNs who wish to go back to school to become a RN: the Doris and Lynn Morris Scholarship and the Babe and Sydney Louis Hyatt Scholarship. The first application cycle occurred in the fall and we are excited to announce our winners Natashia Davis and Kourtney Buchanan. Congratulations Natashia and Kourtney!

St. Albans wants to congratulate Luke Molina as January Employee of the Month. Luke goes above and beyond for all of St Albans patients. He makes great relationships with our patients and ensures their patient satisfaction. Thank you, Luke for all you do for St Albans and the patients.

Alva Daniels went above and beyond his typical respiratory duties.  My patient was transported by the pediatric transport team to fluoroscopy in the patient's wheelchair.  Despite measuring, the patient's wheelchair did not fit in the fluoro tower.  Alva put on his tool belt and was able to remove the arm of the wheelchair in order to maintain the most optimal positioning for the patient to complete the study.  Without his help, my patient would not have the necessary positioning for feeding, which could have negatively changed the plan of treatment. 

 Susan King covered the shift of a coworker who was ill even though she herself had dealt with a family emergency the night before and had not slept at all. It was a very busy day and she did not complain once and just went with the flow and handled the day with ease! She even took a moment to leave a small treat on my desk! Thank you Susan for your help today and wonderful attitude!

We were very short staffed with 4 RN and 1 NA for 20 patients. Dawn came over from 7S at 1900 to help cover and was extremely pleasant and helpful all night not only caring for her patients but assisting other staff with theirs willingly, proactively, and without a single complaint. Staffing was unable to send us an RN at 2300 and 7S needed Dawn back. They had two 1 to 1's and 22 patients with only 5 nurses and 1 NA on the floor. Taking Dawn back was understandable and warranted with their load. However when I discussed our situation with Rose she was extremely helpful.
