Shanna Flowers and Her Amazing Volunteers to the Rescue!

Curiosity: How much paperwork does it take to properly place more than six thousand students a year within Carilion walls? The easy answer: More than you can imagine.

Courage: Visiting Student Affairs is diligently working with amazing people within, to hopefully eliminate the paper required to onboard students, abandoning the historical not-so-tree-friendly process. In the meantime, we daily find ourselves arriving to a sea of papers, no matter how organized we are as individuals; and because of volume, rarely have time to slow down enough to manage things like filing. We need a little help until we (fingers crossed) go electronic.

Compassion: It's good to have friends who hear your woes and come to the rescue. Enter Shanna Flowers, Manager Volunteer Services

Community: As it turns out, Shanna has some amazing friends (volunteers from our community) who heard about our situation and came to our rescue!

Commitment: One of them was so willing, that she came back, week after week, until we could actually open our desk cabinets and not fall victim to a paper avalanche.

We are so grateful to Shanna Flowers for sending such super sweet, hard-working, generous volunteers to help clear clutter. Thank you volunteers Helen Moe and Carol Danielsen for helping us out...and thank YOU, Linda Guidi (pictured), for coming on day one, quickly realizing what you got yourself into, then coming back for more! You've made quite an impact on the Visiting Student Affairs (VSA) team and inadvertently, all of the parties we serve: Patients, Carilion, Preceptors, Students and Schools.
