Lynda McGarry, the Regional Nurse for Student Health, cares for the special needs students in the Roanoke City Public Schools.  When she realized one of the students had a wheelchair that was too small and would not get a replacement for another couple of years, she sought out alternative resources.  Lynda was able to locate a charity that re-distributes medical equipment for children and found the perfect chair, much to the delight of the young man!  Way to go the extra mile, Lynda!

A huge thank you from the CFMH ED team to Tim Traegner and Chris Turner from the CPTS team.  We had a critical patient, that needed to be transferred to CRMH, the patient needing transport was a critical patient, stable at the time, however with the given diagnosis the patient's condition could quickly deteriorate.  When the transport team arrived I expressed that we needed to get the patient loaded and to CRMH as quickly as possible.  The transport job did an awesome job working quickly and efficiently to take report and get the patient loaded.  Thank you

Beth, RN with Carilion Clinic Home Health has shown such Commitment getting to her patients this week after the snow fall last weekend.  On Tuesday she was due to come draw labs and I would have been completely understanding if she had chosen to reschedule.  Instead, she drove as close as she could to my snow covered private road and driveway and walked in.  I was impressed by her commitment and extra effort to reach me, and when I told her I appreciated her effort, she told me how much she enjoyed the beautiful walk in the snow.  Thank you Beth.

I would like to give a huge thanks to Jake Peabody and Amelia Havens at Park View Café. They both came in Sunday during the snow storm and provided hot meals not only to CTaC and Carilion Direct staff here working, but also to the entire Property Maintenance department. They provided lunch and dinner Sunday, as well as breakfast Monday. All of which was paid for by Carilion, and thank you Carilion.

On Sunday 12/09/18 Jake and Amelia came in and opened the Park View Cafe to serve employees working and ground staff helping to clear snow. They served a hot lunch and dinner along with staying overnight in the building to serve a hot breakfast Monday morning. Thank you for your dedication to employees and staff working during the winter storm Diego !  We can not say thank you enough for feeding us with warm meals and spending your day off with us instead of your families!

On Friday evening there was a patient at NRV who was in need of a procedure that the providers at NRV could do, but did not have the equipment to perform.  Arrangements were being made to transfer the patient to RMH when Dr. Bishop suggested trying to find a way to get the equipment to NRV rather than transferring the patient to RMH.

Betty Slagle celebrated her 87th birthday yesterday! She is a full-time, dedicated member of the CSJH EVS team and has been in her role for 37 years. Please join us in wishing Betty a belated Happy Birthday! 

I want to let Jessica with the PICC team know that I appreciated her today! She helped walk me through setting up a typical inpatient procedure as an outpatient and with her help, setting this up was as breeze.

I would also like to make mention of staff in the microbiology lab who have helped our team in the past with making certain the correct tests and cultures were ordered through EPIC for challenging infection testing.

Without the devotion of these staff members, patient care wouldn't be at its best!

Please join St. Albans as we honor Santina "Tina" Krayer as the December St. Albans Employee of the Month. Tina has went above and beyond to get our new "quiet room" up and running for our patients. She has added new equipment, such as weighted lap pads and bubble lamps that the patients really enjoy. The patients have commented on how there is such an enjoyable variety of activities in the Rec Therapy Room. Thank you, Tina, for all you do for our patients and for St. Albans.
