Going above and beyond to deliver care to a patient at an outside hospital

On Friday evening there was a patient at NRV who was in need of a procedure that the providers at NRV could do, but did not have the equipment to perform.  Arrangements were being made to transfer the patient to RMH when Dr. Bishop suggested trying to find a way to get the equipment to NRV rather than transferring the patient to RMH. 

After a few failed attempts at trying to arrange to get a ride for the equipment, I spoke with Andy Green, clinical administrator, who said he would look and see if any of the nurses at RMH lived around NRV that would be willing to drive it there. 

I got a call back soon after saying that Alicia Cox had volunteered to help.  Alicia drove the equipment to NRV after her shift was over which allowed that patient to get the procedure faster done than would she would have if she was being transferred, avoided the cost and stress of transferring facilities, and allowed the patient to receive the care she needed in her own community which she wouldn't have been able to get otherwise. 

It was inspiring to see everyone come together, and for Alicia to go out of her way to make a difference for this patient.  Great job by all involved!!
