On October 14th, The Nursing Center of Excellence awarded the Outstanding Preceptor Award to Jon Conti, Nuclear Medicine Technologist.  Leaders from the Nursing Center of Excellence presented him with the award alongside the Nuclear Medicine team members.  James Crowley, Imaging Services Manager, who submitted the nomination said that Jon's "body language and tone is always calm, reassuring, and comforting to staff.  Jon has worked to improve the training by learning from his peers and receiving feedback from leaders and staff to improve our pe

A Shout out to Madison Brown, R.N.

Madison recently spoke with very engaged nursing students at Virginia Western and shared with them the rewards of being a nurse here at Carilion. Madison joined us in our resource pool as a patient care tech while she was in college. After graduating from Radford University in 2021, she came on board in our PCU at CRMH because, in her words: "I felt that I could really grow my knowledge and skills there as a brand new nurse! I could not have chosen a better floor to really grow my critical thinking and physical nursing skills.

In recognition for their achievement and innovation in health care sustainability, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and Carilion New River Valley Medical Center have received multiple awards from Practice Greenhealth, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to environmental sustainability in health care.

On October 5th, The Nursing Center of Excellence awarded the Outstanding Preceptor Award to Tamara Woolwine, RN.  Meg Scheaffel, CNO, and Kristin Crouse, Transition to Nursing Practice Director, presented her with the award alongside other nurse leaders.  Susan Hall, RN, who submitted the nomination said "when Tamara orients someone, they are completely ready for the job."  Tamara's commitment and compassion toward not only her patients, but also to her Carilion Clinic family, deserves to be recognized and celebrated.  Congratulations!

On October 5th, The Nursing Center of Excellence awarded the Outstanding Preceptor Award to Angela Manning, CA.  Meg Scheaffel, CNO, and Kristin Crouse, Transition to Nursing Practice Director, presented her with the award alongside other nurse leaders.  Briana Sexton, CA, who submitted the nomination said if Angela "didn't know an answer to a question I had, she made a point to seek out the information for me."  Angela's commitment and compassion toward not only her patients, but also to her Carilion Clinic family, deserves to be recognized and celebrated.

Trauma Survivors Network Grant Awarded!!

Ottilia Lewis and our CRMH Trauma Survivors Network (TSN) Program are the recipients of a grant from the American Trauma Society (ATS)!  This inaugural “TSN Site Grant Program” will support our shared ATS mission: "Saving Lives. Improving Care. Empowering Survivors".  The $1000 dollar grant will be aimed at our Peer Visitation and Support Program which has been a mainstay of the CRMH TSN program.

I just wanted to thank a member of our E.V.S. team for going above and beyond to set an example of hard work for those around him. Alex Viles has taken it upon himself to carry himself with a positive attitude and pay attention  to all the  detail of his work in all of the encounters I have had with him here at Carilion.
