CRMH & CNRV win awards for superior performance in environmental sustainability! 

In recognition for their achievement and innovation in health care sustainability, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and Carilion New River Valley Medical Center have received multiple awards from Practice Greenhealth, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to environmental sustainability in health care.  

• CRMH and CNRV both received the Greenhealth Partner for Change Award – This award recognizes superior performance in environmental sustainability, covering a range of different sustainability programs and activities.  

• CNRV received the Greening the OR Recognition Award – This award honors facilities that have made substantial progress in reducing the impact of the surgical environment. CNRV has worked hard over the past year on blue wrap reduction/converting to reusable sterilization containers, implementing plastic recycling from the ORs, expanding reprocessing collections, and participating in the Greening the OR workgroup. 

In health care, sustainability means looking at how our operations affect the health and safety of our environment as well as the health of our patients, staff, visitors, and local community. Strategies to address sustainability at our organization include minimizing and recycling waste, lowering energy and water consumption, and sourcing food locally.   

At Carilion, we know sustainability is essential to better care for our patients, communities, and the planet. This is the 5th year that CRMH has won the Partner for Change Award and the 4th year CNRV has. This is the first year CNRV has won the Greening the OR Award.
