However he discovered the kit included vial of 0.5% Bupivacaine 30ml vial, not 0.25% as the label read

Jim Bohn is retiring this week as manager of Carilion Design Group after 36 years with Carilion Clinic. During his time serving our communities, Jim has impacted countless lives and has worked tirelessly to create the best environments possible for our patients, visitors, and staff. But Jim’s dedication goes far beyond just the office. He has never hesitated to go above and beyond to meet the needs of our patients and staff, regardless of day or time. Jim’s had a large part in the planning and design of many of Carilion’s most iconic buildings and renovations.
I would like to recognize Wendy Davis (Quality Improvement Facilitator), Nicole Bailey (Clinical Social Worker Home Health), and Stephanie Noel-Branch (Clinical Coordinator Advanced Illness Program). They have achieved Senior Instructor Status with Respecting Choices a national program that we utilize to teach Advance Care Planning for Carilion. There are only 4 people with this status in Virginia and we are lucky to have 3 here at Carilion. Our program was also recognized by the national program Respecting Choices.
The staff of the Carilion Sim Center and Emergency Services participated in the Roanoke Valley's Career Quest, where area 7th graders were introduced to local businesses and professions. The kids had a blast using the Laparoscopic Fundamentals trainer, learning about taking vitals from our juvenile manakin, Hal Jr, and the "stop the bleed" program. Hopefully we inspired some of tomorrow's health care professionals to enter medicine (and come back to work for Carilion!).
Congratulations to Michael Nussbaum, M.D., Chair, Department of Surgery, for being admitted into the American College of Surgeons Academy of Master Surgeon Educators for his dedication to surgical education throughout his career. In addition to his role at Carilion as Chair of the Department of Surgery, Dr. Nussbaum has served as a professor of surgery at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine since 2017.

At the Visit Virginia’s Blue Ridge annual meeting, three awards were given. Carilion Clinic received the “GOLDEN STAR AWARD” for our contribution in making the Roanoke Valley Region a healthier place to live with our leadership support of the Ironman events and the Twenty24 biking team. They recognized our commitment to wellness and to making the region a more welcoming and diverse community. It’s quite an honor!
Two departments each recycled 500 pounds of soft plastics (for a total of 1,000 pounds!) through the Trex Soft Plastics Recycling Program and obtained two new benches for CMC's campus!
Our team in Operational Continuity wants to recognize everyone at Giles for being the first group of continuity plan owners and contributors across the Carilion system to complete their annual updates/approvals within the requested timeframe. We are so appreciative of their engagement and initiative to bring their Plans current in less than 2 weeks from our facilitation meetings. Kudus to the leaders at Giles! Great Collaboration and Commitment!
