The Carilion Clinic Hospice team in the NRV, does a fantastic job in working with and for our community veterans each year. Treasa Rigney leads this works and has a passion for the veterans and for the impact this work has on those we serve. She plans and organizes ways that our team can contribute in recognizing and honoring those that have served our great land. Treasa began as our Volunteer Coordinator in 2016 and the NRV team obtained level 5 in 2017, the first year that it was offered by the We Honor Veterans (WHV) organization.

Great Catch for Patient Safety

Shout out to Wayne Scott for identifying that the humidity monitoring and humidity controls through the New Construction HVAC system were left off. Regulations require a daily humidity recording and the humidity must be controlled by the HVAC system. KUDOS to Wayne for his situational awareness for creating a safer patient environment. Humidity control minimizes the risk of microbial proliferation in the Sterile Compounding Area.

Excellence looks like 8MICU

Submitted by mskraemer on

Recent leader rounding in 8MICU and we saw excellence in action. Brie Keck showed us around the unit. We learned that despite being full with 12 very critically ill patients they had ZERO foley catheters in place. She showed us how this  unit tracks all important measures such as pressure ulcers, patient experience, falls, CAUTIs and several others. This unit is setting the pace for excellence at CMC. Great work 8MICU!

Thank You COVID-19 Testing Center Staff!

Submitted by mblowery on

Wednesday marked a milestone moment in the pandemic when our COVID-19 testing centers on Postal Drive in Roanoke and Barn Road in Christiansburg officially closed.

More than 100 employees supported these sites, completing more than 340,000 tests since the start of the pandemic. During peaks, it was not uncommon for staff to work from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. to ensure all needs were met.
