We’re beginning a project to make sure all phones within Carilion facilities meet federal Enhanced 911 (E911) requirements – so that whenever someone calls 911 from a Carilion phone, emergency responders can quickly locate the caller to dispatch help. To help us update our phone system, we have contracted 911 Secure to conduct a phone audit. Every phone at every facility will need to be touched. (This does not apply to Carilion mobile phones.) It’s a big undertaking, and we will need your help!

Health care systems are being targeted by cybercriminals, so it’s important that we have safeguards in place for our network and the data stored within it.

With that in mind, we are updating our password security policy to require 15-character passphrases instead of passwords when you update your AD credentials (the username and password you use to log in to email, Epic and other Carilion applications) after Wednesday, Dec. 1. Because passphrases are more secure than passwords, you will only need to update your passphrase once per year (rather than the current 90 days).

That’s because October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) and members of the Accessibility Advocates Employee Resource Group (ERG) want to share information with you about the month and its importance.

Cybercriminals use a variety of tricks to steal people's information or money, and they often target health care organizations and the people who work for them. Here are a couple of common scams to watch out for:

Gift Card Scams

Scammers will send email posing as your supervisor, asking that you purchase one or more gift cards, and they’ll pay you back. These emails will come with a sense of urgency, telling you that the purchase must be made immediately.  Things to know:
