Submitted by aedraper on

Our organization has seen an increase in patients impacted by gun violence since 2018. In response, we have launched a hospital-based intervention program for those impacted by violent trauma.

The Violent Injury - Recovery and Support (VIRS) program provides evidence-based strategies within communities, like Roanoke, that are impacted by gun violence by engaging with survivors to prevent and disrupt cycles of violence.

As we work toward the completion of the Crystal Spring Tower expansion on the CMRH campus, we will begin renovating the Patient Services Kitchen and Mountain View Café as part of that process.

Work will begin May 1 and run through May 2025.

The cafeteria will remain open during the renovation.

Services provided to our patients, staff and visitors will not be interrupted during construction. Signage will be located in and around the café to inform patrons and help them navigate the area.

New Food Pantry Opens in Radiation Oncology Clinic

Submitted by aedraper on

Proper nutrition is essential during cancer treatment, and improving access to the healthy foods that support healing benefits cancer patients—and supports our mission.

In partnership with Feeding America Southwest Virginia and Blue Ridge Cancer Care, we have taken steps to improve that access by opening the region's first clinic-based food pantry in our Radiation Oncology clinic.

The pantry is quickly becoming a resource for our patients: In the first 10 days of opening, it had already served 16 patients.

First Transvesical Prostatecomy in our Region!

Congratulations to Charles Daniel, M.D., a Carilion Urologist for performing the first simple transvesical prostatectomy in our region, a procedure that treats various urologic conditions. It was done using the single-port da Vinci robot, a minimally invasive technique that results in fewer incisions and a quicker recovery time. Carilion’s Urology team continues to lead the way in offering cutting-edge treatments.
