Meg Burrow, a long-time patient of Carilion Children's and a Children's Miracle Network child, passed away in August from complications of a very rare genetic disorder: CTBP1.
Please save your old electronics for a March 8 recycling event. We are partnering with River Acceptance, a local electronics recycler, to recycle electronics safely and securely. All funds from the recycled materials will be donated to the Carilion Clinic Foundation's Taubman Cancer Center Fund to support our new cancer center. Santa Claus made quite an entrance yesterday at CRMH! With some help from Roanoke Fire EMS, he and two of his elves rappelled down the side of the building to say hello and bring smiles to our brave little patients in the pediatric ICU. Afterwards, Santa and a team from Roanoke Fire EMS visited children in the unit and distributed goodie bags.
On Thursday Santa and one of his elves made another visit, this time at Carilion Children's Tanglewood.

Jimmy Howe became an organ donor on the last day of his life, when his donation saved the lives of four others. His heart, liver, and kidneys went to individuals who were suffering from chronic illnesses and whose only chance at a long life rested in someone’s final act of selflessness.
An honor walk is a way hospital staff pay respects to an organ donor if the patient and family opt for it. The video above tells Jimmy's story and shows the honor walk with hospital staff lining both sides of the hallway.
