Remembering the Flood of 1985—40 Years Later

Submitted by armartz2 on

A wall of water more than 23 feet high, carrying with it the greatest flood destruction in Roanoke Memorial's 86-year-old history, roared down the Roanoke River on Nov. 4, 1985, causing widespread damage at the hospital as well as an incredible amount of dislocation. This marked the third time within a 13-year period that raging floodwaters had inundated the hospital. We Surpassed Our $100 Million Goal—Thanks to You, We’re Reaching Even Further

Submitted by kesims1 on

Four months after the public launch of the Reaching Far, Caring Close campaign, we’ve raised more than $105 million to fund the new Carilion Taubman Cancer Center.

Building on that success, Nick and Jenny Taubman have made an additional $17.5 million gift to help bring proton therapy—one of the most advanced cancer treatments available—to Roanoke. Their generosity launches the next fundraising phase, with a $50 million goal. Including a recent $2.5 million anonymous gift, $20 million has already been raised toward that vision.
