Christopher Peterson has Ingenuity at Work!

Submitted by amhuggins on

Radiology holding had a perfectly functional wheelchair that had lost some screw covers.  Christopher Peterson took it upon himself to 3D print some replacements for us to keep our patients safe and our equipment looking great. So grateful for him, his ideas, and follow through.  It is the little things like this that remind us what Carilion is all about.  Thank you, Christopher!

The Accounting Shared Services team surprised their Director, Crystal Banks, and Vice President Matt Barr with a congratulatory cake for completing their Master's Degrees. Crystal is set to receive her Master’s in Healthcare Administration in May, and Matt completed his Master’s in Healthcare Leadership in August 2022. Both Crystal and Matt’s desire to learn, grow, and achieve is reflected in their leadership by encouraging their teams to do the same. Both foster Carilion’s values in their work and are an inspiration to their teams!

Living our Values to Save a Patient

Submitted by sbtyler on

Hayley Andrews, infection preventionist CRBH, made quite the great catch.  We had a patient who tested positive for carbapenem resistant aeromonus hydrophila.   Hayley used her epidemiological skills to source the root cause of the problem and she found it.  It was contaminated well water, as the source of the patient's illness! This information was given to the patient family and bedside nurses taking care of the patient and they were able to fix the well water so it is safe for the patient.

Huge shout out to Charles Bullins for passing the ELSO ECMO Certification test!!!!   This is a new certification by ELSO for ECMO. Shayna Amos and Charles have represented our ECMO program well, being the first two members of the ECMO team to take and pass this test. You are both amazing!

This is certainly a milestone worth celebrating along the journey to a Center of Excellence for this ECMO team.  Great things are ahead as this program and team continues to strengthen and grow.
