Dr. Ickes Receives National Recognition for Non-Fatal Opioid Overdose Study

The annual Innovations in Addiction Medicine and Science (ASAM) Conference provides medical professionals the opportunity to learn from nationally recognized experts. Last week, Annie Ickes, D.O., Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine Addiction Medicine Fellow and Emergency Medicine resident, presented and won top recognition for a research study on “Emergency Department Buprenorphine-Naloxone for Non-Fatal Opioid Overdose Survivors.”

Dr. Ickes completed her Emergency Medicine residency at Virginia Tech Carilion, where she is actively involved in the Emergency Department (ED) Bridge to Treatment Program and recently created an ED alcohol misuse SBIRT protocol. In fellowship, she has worked on a team to implement a regional grant funded opioid education and naloxone distribution program.
