CVI participated in the second annual "STEM Goes Red" celebration, an initiative by the American Heart Association that acknowledges the contributions of local women in advancing science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.   This program aims to promote STEM education and research in the Roanoke Valley.

At a leadership conference, Cece, Jessie, and Kelly, music therapists at Carilion Hospice, recently showcased their Heartbeat Legacy Project. Their presentation aimed to raise awareness about music therapy and the legacy project's inclusive nature. Through their initiative, they shed light on the role of music therapists and the transformative potential of music therapy. These three innovative women are leading the charge in pioneering new approaches to music therapy through their presentations and research projects.

The Advertising Awards of Western Virginia recognized our Communications, Marketing and Planning department's creativity by awarding three Silver ADDYs at the ADDY Awards gala on Saturday, March 2.

The following projects and employees were recognized:

Kara Lucas, PharmD BCACP CDCES and Ann Lucktong, PharmD BCACP CDCES both earned certification as clinical diabetes educators in the last month by applying for consideration, meeting the patient hours requirements, completing specified continued education credits, studying and culminated success by passing the certification exam. 

We are thrilled to celebrate DAISY Award recipient Hayley Andrews MSN,RN CIC Infection Preventionist at Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital.

Hayley Andrews,  made quite the great catch to receive her DAISY for demonstration our Carilion Clinic values in her practice. 

Congratulations to Andrea Major for winning the Compliance quiz drawing!  We appreciate everyone’s participation and support of Corporate Compliance and Ethic’s week. 

Meg Carter, P.T.  from the Rehab team at CFMH won this year's Rehab Excellence Award! Meg exemplified the Carilion values of compassion, curiosity, commitment and collaboration during this past year. She collaborated with Emily Brush, a Physical Therapist on the Carilion Home Care Team, and a local church to provide a loan locker of medical equipment for residents in the community. They have collected donated medical items, cleaned them and moved them to a storage location at a local church.

Congratulations to Bethany David, RN on 7S ICU for being our first individual imPACT Award Winner! Bethany was nominated by a fellow nurse who noted Bethany’s critical thinking and applauded her curiosity and empowerment to ensure that we didn’t continue a treatment that was potentially harmful for one of her patients. She received an admission from an outside facility with a chronic foley. Bethany couldn’t identify any supporting evidence of why the foley was needed, so she removed it. The patient began voiding on their own.
