On August 30th Hurley, Virginia experienced a devastating flood and many landslides that destroyed dozens of homes and shook the community.  Sandy Hess, Environmental Services Technician at CTCH, grew up in Hurley and was burdened for her hometown.  She had friends and family who lost everything in the flood.  Sandy wanted to help, so she organized a supply drive to collect donations for the flood victims.  Her compassion inspired her co-workers.  They collected cleaning supplies, food, pet food, hygiene items, and water for the Hurley community.  We are proud

Congratulations to Montana Young, RN on Outpatient Surgery on winning the Daisy Award. 

Here is what Montana's patient had to say about her: 

Montana took excellent care of me when I had my gallbladder removed. Her calm humorous nature helped ease my nerves about my procedure and she a fantastic job of advocating for me when I wasn’t sure I wanted a resident on my case. She was also instrumental in getting my pain and nausea under control post-op so I could go home. She is truly a great nurse.

Despite being extremely busy, wearing PPE, and working outside, this group of staff have a smile on their face and words of reassurance for those having COVID testing.

My son had a presurgical COVID test performed by Julie this past Saturday. Julie explained the process, was very good humored, and made him laugh despite being in pain from a fractured clavicle!

Michelle Diehl was interviewed for the position as the Psychiatry's office-based opioid treatment program's pioneering care coordinator four years ago this week.  Statewide policy changes paved the way for a new preferred interdisciplinary approach to the treatment of persons with an opioid use disorder.  This model hinges on care coordination - that Michelle brought into fruition.  The program doubled in capacity from 2017 to 2021 and has grown from one care coordinator to five.  The wrap around care, the compassionate outreach, provided in this program has been inspire

There was a patient here in the office that had been waiting on transportation services to arrive, and the patient had been waiting quite a long time. Michelle Stockton asked the patient if he was thirsty or hungry. She ended up giving him a pack of peanut butter crackers and took her own money and bought him a drink out of the vending machine. During these trying times, everyone is deserved to be shown compassion and Michelle, you have definitely done that. You are such an addition to this office, and we don't know what we would do without you! Thank you! 

We have a travel RN on our floor by the name of Cindy Rodriguez. Today, she did something so sweet that it brought tears to my eyes. We have a chronic trach patient who has been with us for some time. This week, the patient lost a relative. She was unable to attend the service which was today. So her friends decided to have her on a live video chat so she could attend.

Congratulations to Charlie Tarasidis, the 2021 Virginia Pharmacist Association (VPhA) recipient of the Bowl of Hygeia Community Service Award.  Established in 1958, the Bowl of Hygeia Award recognizes pharmacists who possess outstanding records of civic leadership in their communities. In addition to service through their local, state, and national pharmacy associations, award recipients devote their time, talent, and resources to a wide variety of causes and community service outside the profession. 

Congratulations to Cameron Harrison, a CA with the CNRV Resource, for winning the latest Bee Award! Cameron is thought very highly of and is a wonderful part of our hospital family! Cameron was recognized when one of his patient's family pet, a 20 year old white cat, passed while she was in the hospital. Cameron went to the gift shop and bought a white cat for this patient to comfort her. This type of generosity and sympathy is a part of Cameron's everyday character! We are lucky to be able to say Cameron is a part of our team. Way to go, Cameron!
