Your work ethic and efforts really motivates and inspires this team!  We know you juggle a lot as our manager, and  just wanted to say that we are so grateful to have you as our manager. I would like to recognize Jacob & Jolaine from Carilion Transport, who showed immeasurable kindness and compassion toward one of our Rehab patients who gets picked up daily for radiation. Their courtesy made her day, and she was eager to express her appreciation. 

The patient took the time to write the following note: 

There were actually 3 different patients/loved ones within the last two weeks that were looking at some very hard end of life choices.

Patient #1: Sarah did what she would usually do which is to advocate for her patient's best interests. This instance saved this family from an unwanted intubation as well as corrected a "known/wanted code status" per the patient's wishes. 

Patient #2: Sarah continued to advocate for this patient's comfort as well as the ability to have their loved be able to come and visit given the end of life condition.

Lauren Turner shows her compassion for others every day in our pediatric cardiology clinic, but it doesn't stop there! Last Thursday, as she was coming back from her break, she noticed an elderly man in need of assistance getting someone out of the car and into a wheelchair in the parking lot at Tanglewood. When she got to the car to offer help, she saw that this elderly man was trying to get his elderly brother out of the car and into the wheelchair by himself. She immediately jumped into action and helped him! Thank you Lauren for your kindness and compassion for others!

Brook was presented with a Great Catch Award for utilizing her skills in situational awareness. Brook was very instrumental in preventing two patients from leaving the Emergency Department and/or going back to an unsafe environment. Her nursing skills, her professionalism, her keen observation skills and her situational awareness skills prevented further harm to both patients. Her kindness and her caring attitude played a huge role in this life saving measure as well. Thank you Brook for keeping both of these patients safe from further harm. We appreciate you so much.

Sandra Ensor, nurse navigator at the LIFT Clinic at Fallon Park Elementary School, delivered wrapped presents to students and got big smiles from everyone. Sandra goes above and beyond by not only providing the most personal treatment to her patients and their families, but also by bringing a smile to boys and girls leaving school before break by giving them a wrapped gift. Sandra sets the example for care and compassion for the patients that we serve throughout the holidays and all year round. 

My father-in-law was a patient on PCU at CNRV from December 22 until December 24.  Our family is very grateful for the excellent care that he received from the nurses and physician.  Thanks to all for showing such kindness during his illness.

Last week we had a Korean war Veteran on our unit. He had PTSD and was confused one day and talked a lot about his time in Korea. Phyllis listened to his stories and the next day when he wasn't confused asked for a card and had all the nursing staff sign it thanking him for his service. The patient was proud of his card and showed leadership when they rounded and his family. Thank you Phyllis. 

Olivia Gorse is constantly doing what she can to make patients, and their families feel better about the situation they're going through. I witnessed her putting herself out there today to make a family feel much better after being on edge for several hours. It was something that most others would've delegated to somebody else or thought nothing of it and kept going on about their day. Not Olivia though, she took the situation head on and did all she could to address it and help them feel some sort of relief. Keep being amazing Olivia!!
