Twice a year, the NRV Carilion Clinic Hospice and Home Care employees identify not for profit organizations in our community that we can help to accomplish their mission. This is voluntary for our teams and they ALWAYS come through. Spring 2023, our teams identified Vittles for Vets. Vittles for Vets is a local organization that helps local veterans with food. Recently, their outreach funds have decreased from $50.00 weekly to $25.00 weekly for groceries. Thirteen veterans were identified as needing more help. That is where our awesome team came in to help.

I wanted to give a big THANK YOU to Craig Bastian for helping me last week. I had gotten a flat tire on my way into work. As he was walking in for his shift, he saw that I needed some help, and helped me change my tire. Because of his help, I was only a few minutes late for my shift. Thank you for your kindness! 

The CVI Retention committee took on a challenge from the Recognition Shared Governance Council to collect Pull-ups for the Carilion Children's Hospital. One month later, 4136 pair of Pull-ups (plus a few packs of diapers) were donated!! A special thanks to the CVI Retention Committee for taking on this challenge and disseminating to the CVI areas. First place in the collection competition was Vascular Surgery OR team with 1495 pair!! Second place was 6SCSICU with 1216 pair!! Nice job to all the teams who helped with this Children's Hospital need. 

Nurses Bethany David and Shelly Henson from 7SICU beautifully displayed the upmost compassion for their dying patients who were husband and wife and were able to grant the wish of their son, who was withdrawing care on both of them, that they be able to die together. With collaboration between many different disciplines, these two patients were able to be in the same unit which provided much ease and comfort for their son.

A gold star and big thanks goes out to Stephanie May, NP from CRBH. A patient of the ICU at CRBH left behind his dentures upon transfer to Roanoke Memorial. Stephanie happily transported the dentures to Roanoke on her way home so the patient could SMILE again! Thank you for going the extra mile and out of your way for our patients. 

The DAISY Award was created to honor the extraordinary work that our dedicated nurses provide their patients and families every day.  It is especially important when those patients are our smallest ones.

CRBH would like to recognize Rebecca Kimberlin, RN in the ED for going above and beyond for a patient. A patient was being discharged and refused a ride, so she walked the patient home to ensure that he arrived home safely! Thank you for all that you do Rebecca, it is greatly appreciated!

I am a tele sitter who witnessed a patient wanting to go home and the nurse Casey went above and beyond to help the patient feel secure in his stay.  The nurse works at the rehab, first he allows the patient to speak with his wife and then he spoke with his wife asking for suggestions on how to help this patient feel comfortable.  After which he sat with the him attempting to convince the patient is safe and no one is here to hurt him, when that did not help, Casey proceeded to take the patient on a walk making him feel comfortable and safe enough to stay. Well done, Casey.

Hello!

First of all, the Giles ED staff would like to thank each and every one of you that participated in our toy drive! Because of your generosity we were able to collect 937 stuffed animals and toys to give to our littlest patients! We are blown away by your generosity! Giles Community Hospital showed up in a big way to show "Love for the Littles."

We are also pleased to announce the winner of our contest: Med/Surg! Donuts and coffee creamer were delivered to their unit today to show our appreciation!
