I want to recognize Michele Richardson for offering to help a coworker with a ride to work while her car was being repaired.  Michele did not want her coworker to miss more work and went out of her way to give her a ride to work.

The patient who nominated Terri was admitted to CFMH and was very ill and felt awful. She stated that Terri was wonderful, very compassionate and caring she explained all procedures to me and reassured me, she took the time to answer questions, and help ease my fears. She was also very helpful to my family. She answered questions, Provided information and kept them informed of any changes. She attended to all needs she was very compassionate and caring she always took time to answer questions and made sure I had things I needed.

Shout out to Kate Weaver and Brandi Wiley for their amazing work in the ED! They collaborated to provide the best care for their patient. Kate and Brandi exhibited immeasurable compassion towards the patient and their family. Proud to work with you both!

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Elizabeth Russo-Stringer, MD, and her staff members at Ambulatory Surgery at Community Hospital, that assisted in two procedures I had done at Carilion clinic at community hospital for the amazing treatment I received during the visits. I was blown away by their kindness, devotion, and their compassion in patient care. From the front desk staff all the way through discharge. I received exceptional care and felt at ease the entire time. They really pay attention to the patients’ needs and that goes a long way.

Amy Gray is a nurse practitioner at Giles who did the most amazing thing. We were caring for one of her distant neighbors, whom she would occasionally see working in his garden. They would sometimes wave but never talked. He had a metastatic cancer, but was still seeking full care. There was a hope he could make it through Christmas with reasonable health, but he had a somewhat sudden worsening. Hospice had been discussed, but he had held off, hoping for improvement. The day he got worse, he told his family and caregivers that he just wanted to go home on hospice.

The DAISY Award celebrates nurses who dedicate their careers making a difference in the health care of our patients big and small.  Allie showed such compassionate care of one of our smallest patients and her family. Please take a moment to read her special story.

Our department volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House for team building and Shane Brandt was there dropping something off and during this time he saw us lifting several large boxes and jumped right in to lend a helping hand. He didn't have to help and wasn't asked, he immediately pitched in and was a big help to our team. A HUGE thank you to Shane!

The Carilion BEE Award was created to help recognize the amazing job Patient Care Technicians do to take care of our patients and families. Their role as an ancillary staff member is key to the great care that our patients receive here at CRMH.

She exemplifies the nurses’ values, has extraordinary compassion, demonstrates excellence during the delivery of patient care, and compassion when caring for myself. I think and feel during my personal care she answered all concerns and questions. All the facts above are important to alleviate fears and assist in a speedy recovery (this was my first major surgery).
