Halloween Fun For Our Youngest Patients

Submitted by cjholtzhauer on

This past weekend, Carilion Children’s staff and the Family Advisory Board (FAB) brought Halloween fun to the NICU, PICU and Pediatric patients! The Family Advisory Board hosted pumpkin painting, supplied goody bags and made costumes for NICU patients. From a burger and fries, a gumball machine and a cow, to Mario, Princess Jasmine, pumpkins and more, the creative costumes brightened the day of our NICU families and made sure Carilion Children’s tiniest patients didn’t miss out on Halloween.

Montrese's Contagious Kindness

Submitted by latibbs on

Last week while in the cafeteria at CRMH I noticed an employee greeting others with a huge smile and kind words. He was obviously there on his lunch break, but took the time to get up, greet others, and offer them a kind word. I was SO impressed with his kindness that I had to go sit at his table and find out for myself who this gentleman was. Mr. Montrese Starkey with Env Services. Montrese, the world needs more people like you! Carilion is blessed to have you as a part of our family.

CFMH's ED staff Josie Cagle, RN & Mary Bryant help a surgery patient celebrate her birthday

Submitted by dzweems on

Josie had a patient that was requiring emergency surgery and she found out it was the patient’s birthday. She thought it would be nice to find a birthday card for her and give to her after surgery when she was admitted. Mary went to a local store and bought the patient a balloon and a card. Josie took the card and balloon to the patient on med/surg after she was admitted. The patient was very happy and appreciative!
