Christmas Compassion

Amy Gray is a nurse practitioner at Giles who did the most amazing thing. We were caring for one of her distant neighbors, whom she would occasionally see working in his garden. They would sometimes wave but never talked. He had a metastatic cancer, but was still seeking full care. There was a hope he could make it through Christmas with reasonable health, but he had a somewhat sudden worsening. Hospice had been discussed, but he had held off, hoping for improvement. The day he got worse, he told his family and caregivers that he just wanted to go home on hospice. While that was being arranged, Amy was working, so she called her husband and asked him for a favor. He ran to Walmart and bought a Christmas tree. He took it to the home and helped the patient's grandson decorate the tree before the patient arrived home. The patient got his own Christmas, and died peacefully at home the next day.  I feel privileged every day that I get to work with Amy Gray, NP. She embodies compassionate caring and makes everyone around her better. Thank you, Amy, from everyone!
