Kalayna was nominated by several of her patients and family members for the compassion she showed. Congratulations, Kalayna!

As soon as you enter the CRMH Dialysis Center you can't help but smile. Every holiday, they decorate their unit with the most cheerful decorations bringing smiles to the patients and staff who enter their doors.  This month the unit is covered with pink and red hearts for Valentines Day. All the red valentines are so cute and tie in well with Heart Month and the Carilion Wear Red Day event held on February 2nd. The team brings smiles to all those who enter their space!

The DAISY award was established to recognize nurses across the world who show amazing care and compassion for their patients and families.  Samantha "Sam", showed such wonderful compassion for her patient's family member when she had to make a difficult call. Please read her nomination story below. 

Guest Services parking team staff member Ryan Brandt recently made a big difference by expressing care and concern for a patient at the Carilion Cancer Center. This patient was so impressed that he sent a letter of gratitude. The patient referenced Ryan as courteous, friendly and making he and his wife feel at ease at a very difficult time in their lives. He stated that Ryan recognized them as they drove up, quickly retrieved a wheelchair and presented a positive, upbeat attitude.

Our Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital Leadership Team served dinner at the Franklin County Warming Center on Thursday and Friday night. I am so proud of this team of compassionate, caring and community loving leaders. They make a difference in our hospital and communities. Some of our leaders who served meals are pictured on this post. Many other CFMH leaders cooked food, provided donations and helped this community service project come to life. Thank you everyone for simply being who you are and for being amazing Carilion Clinic Ambassadors.  

This week my daughter had a medical emergency and I had to leave work abruptly and drive to her home.  Several of my corkers live close to her and offered to pick up her child from school and keep her until I get there.  They checked in each day offering childcare and meals and prayers and support until my daughter was discharged from hospital.  I am so thankful and grateful to work with such a great team and manager.  Thank you to Home Health QR Team and manager Renee Poff.

Guest Services parking team member Kevin Landis at Crystal Spring left a lasting impression on a patient he assisted. On a very cold day when the elevator was down, the patient struggled to get into the building. Kevin stepped in just in time to assist. The patient's gratitude was expressed in a letter which stated, "Kevin stepped in and assured me that he would help and he did just that. I was so relieved to get assistance and he was so pleasant about everything. What was a very bad situation was made so much better by his kindness and caring." 

Rachel Fox took a telephone call from a patient who was terribly distressed about her condition and was trying to get in soon to see one of our providers. Not only was she able to help her get in sooner, but she went above and beyond on the phone with the patient to reassure her that she knew her body best and that we would be here for her if she had any concerns before her appointment. Way to go Rachel, our newest Urogynecology HAA!

As I was walking in to work at CGCH this morning, an elderly gentleman fell just inside the front door.  I quickly dropped my things to help him.  Before I knew it, there were at least 6 people and a wheelchair there!  In addition to others, Kristie Williams, CGCH VP, jumped in, evaluated the man for injuries, helped us get him in the wheelchair and personally escorted him to his destination.  I have known Kristie for many years as a nurse and an administrator.  I am grateful that she is our talented, compassionate leader here!

Congrats Kelly!!

My wife had a total knee replacement at NRV. All went well, but every so often we run into someone who was obviously born to do the job they were doing. Such is the case with Kelly. From the moment she was wheeled into Kellys care from the OR my wife kept getting better. Kelly took control and never looked back. By the time she was discharged we felt as though we were a part of Kellys family. Thanks Kelly, you are a special nurse and person.
