Family & Community Medicine had overwhelming participation in their first volunteer Angel Tree program! FCM's Recognition and Retention Committee suggested an Angel Tree program similar to the one at CNRV. We would like to thank Tammy Cressel for helping us get started. 

In a matter of 3 weeks, FCM's Recognition and Retention Committee and the manager team accomplished the following:

41 children of 21 FCM employees were identified for an Angel Tree tag 

I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to Jenifer Shaver, RN, for her outstanding leadership and dedication in managing the Clothing Closet for the NRV Mental Health inpatient unit. Jenifer has consistently gone above and beyond, not only overseeing this important project but also working closely with her co-workers from the weekend team to ensure that all donated clothing is washed, folded, and carefully organized into the appropriate size bins.

Our Hospitalist Manager, Amy Gilliam, wanted to ensure that the patients spending Christmas away from their families did not go without on Christmas Morning. She arranged for Santa to leave presents for our patients here at CRBH! Thank you, Amy, for all you do and for putting the patients first!

In lieu of a monthly meeting or holiday party, Carilion's Diabetes Management Team spent an afternoon volunteering at Feeding Southwest Virginia. The team routinely meets with people with food insecurity and thankfully, through a partnership with Feeding Southwest Virginia, has been able to provide Healthy Choices food boxes to those in need. This volunteer event was an opportunity to give back to this amazing resource while supporting the community and having a blast together offsite! 

A small token of love, warmth and compassion -on Christmas day -goes a long way when one is in hospital & away from family & friends!!

CVI Surgery PCU has found a way to brighten each patient's Christmas morning with a warm gift of compassion, in this annual project.

Our Transition to Nursing Practice team has been busy spreading joy this holiday season by hosting our 3rd annual festive hot chocolate bar for staff at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. This festivity is funded entirely by our team to show our gratitude for the incredible dedication of our colleagues!! 🎄

We also came together to support our community by purchasing and delivering 🎁gifts to 10 residents at Brandon Oaks. These contributions, made possible by our team's generosity, reflect our commitment to giving back both within our organization and throughout the community.

Stephanie Abed, LPN in Family medicine in Salem is one of the best coworkers I have worked with in my life time. She makes work enjoyable. She is hardworking and knows the definition of team work. She is always willing to jump in where ever is needed and give a hand. She is compassionate and when I help with her provider, all of those patients rave about her. I just want to say Thank you for everything!

A big thank you to the team at TSG who put together so many stockings for our infusion patients in our pediatric and adult areas at CMC. Our patients were so thankful and filled with delight as they received them. They truly felt the love!

Melissa is going above and beyond to care for our patients. No role is too small for her. We have been short staffed lately and she cleans rooms, walks patients to where they need to be, and much more to take the burden off of her busy coworkers all with a smile on her face! We are so grateful for her generous and compassionate spirit!

Abigail Robinson works for the Carilion Direct Practice Lines and answers calls for our specialty providers. Today an elderly patient called in that suffers with memory problems and was trying to check on a consult appointment.  She was so confused and began to cry during the conversation stating she didn't know what she was doing.  Abigail pulled the patient's chart, found the referral and was able to leave a message on behalf of the patient. Above that, Abigail demonstrated compassion for the patient, and encouraged her and shared comforting words with her.
