At the Carilion Mental Health Roanoke Rehab building, we had a woman in the main lobby become upset and openly voiced a desire to walk into traffic outside the building. Distraught, the woman began to get more frustrated, tearful, and vocal. One of our Behavioral Health Security Specialists, Aieisia Coleman, came to the woman's aid immediately. Aieisia took the time to show the woman compassion, gave her undivided attention, and talked to the woman about her options.

Michael Ballard, LPN stayed after hours on Friday May 16 to help a patient jump start his car so he and his wife would not have to wait on AAA to come and help them. He demonstrated compassion for this couple in their time of need. We are very lucky to have him on our team! 

From the daughters of a Hospice Patient at CRBH

I want to thank all of the team members of Lobby RX for spending a great deal of time working on getting medications for a patient who had lost all of their medications in a fire. They spent a lot of time on the phone with the insurance advocating for the patient even though they were incredibly busy. We really appreciate all of your efforts to help our patients!

We do not know each other in person, but during a short phone call, I was impressed with her patience, integrity, and ability to lift up those struggling in the moment. In a quick phone conversation, it is easy to lose sight of the important emotional connections you can make with someone with just a few words. We may not all be in the same building or area, but when in contact with one another, the importance of remembering we are a team, aiming for the same goal, is imperative and can make all the difference in someone's entire day. Thank you for being an amazing human! You matter.

On Friday, May 9th, the Oncology and Palliative team at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital lost one of their beloved team members, Julie Wright, the unit director of 10 South.

Ranessa is an outstanding physical therapist who is very skilled and compassionate about helping her patients regain function.  Her patients are thankful for her professionalism and the quality education she provides. 

Artist and Carilion employee Caroline Booth volunteered time, energy, heart, and skill as she worked with youth from the Roanoke Valley Justice Juvenile Detention Center and the West End Center to create the powerful "Hope and Resilience Youth Art Exhibition" on display at the Oliver Hill Justice Center (315 Church Ave.). Thank you Caroline, for working with the youth and for making space for each of them to be seen, heard, and appreciated. Art heals

I would like to celebrate the PM and R team for having great team work and being Carilion Proud!

On Saturday 5/10/2025, 9W held a graduation celebration for one of our patients.  This young pt has been in the hospital for several months so he could not make his graduation from Radford.  So 9W invited 10M ICU, 9M PCU, PT/OT and chaplain to surprise him with a celebration here: balloons, food, cap and gown, and graduation music provided. Even Doug Up, our unit mascot, wore his Radford garb. It was a lovely celebration (unfortunately pt declined to share the pics taken for him but still a good time had by all!)
