A massive round of applause goes out to our incredible NICU team at Carilion for pulling off a spectacular Carnival-Themed NICU Graduation Reunion! With over 200 NICU graduates and their families in attendance, the event was a heartwarming celebration of strength, resilience, and community.
Rachel Ward is an HAA in the OB GYN float pool and she noticed a patient in the waiting room who seemed really stressed. Rachel went over to talk to the patient to see if she could help her with anything as she seemed a little worried and stressed. The patient opened up and explained that she had an appointment and lived over 2 hours away. She stated that the transportation that she had was cancelled and did not know how she was going to get home.

I want to give a shout out to Randy McMillan from Guest Services! He helped our patient and family member after a procedure by escorting them to the cafeteria and then down to the front of the building to obtain their ride home. This little couple was very appreciative for Randy's time and our department was thankful for his help.
Shoutout to one of our own who went above and beyond! When a patient couldn't find anything they liked to eat, Amanda Kaster did not accept that as the end of the road and she made it happen. She went out of her way to get the food the patient would actually enjoy, turning a frustrating moment into one of comfort and care. It's the little things that make a big difference. Thank you, Amamda, for showing what true compassion looks like in action.
Shyanne Pentasuglia received the Daisy Award after being nominated by one of her patients. The patient expressed that Shyanne is the most understanding nurse and will assist in any way possible. She embodies all the qualities that define an excellent nurse: compassion, care, and a relentless commitment to achieving the best outcomes for her patients. Shyanne treats everyone like a family member and is truly an angel in scrubs. She is an inspiration and is very deserving of the Daisy Award.

Amy truly exemplified compassion and leadership when she stepped up to help a patient in a difficult situation. The patient had an early morning discharge and was scheduled to take a cab to the bus station to catch a Greyhound to North Carolina at 1:30 a.m. Unfortunately, the patient missed her bus and was left stranded at the station.
